A Memory Bear is a special type of Teddy Bear made from textiles with sentimental value for you or your loved ones, these bears are a way to keep the memory of a deceased person or to keep alive the childhood memories or good times passed, they’re made to provide comfort during loss and grief moments.
Textiles like old clothing and other belongings are transformed into a comforting bear to keep for generations, for this purpose my bears are meticulously handmade under traditional crafting techniques, they’re strongly lined, with fully movable joints, German glass eyes and stuffed with a combination of recycled textiles and the remainings of the fabric you provide to work with.
For example Memory Bear can be made with your grandma’s old sweater, the uncle’s blazer, from a pair of old favourite jeans or even your childhood blanket or baby towel, not to mention that worn tablecloth or the old curtains from grandparents’ home. Other belongings like keys, bells, pendants or brooches can be adapted as accessories for the bear to wear.
Please note that thin and delicate materials like sheer, silk and semi-transparent fabrics are not suitable to work for this kind of project, some can be used to make accessories for the bear like a collar. I do not sew clothes for bears at the moment.
You can keep your Memory Bear in a special place, like a glass case, a shelf or your bed, you can also gift it as a special present for a loved one.

Memory Bear - “Muistonalle” - on erityinen käsityönä tehty nalle, johon on käytetty materiaalina tekstiilejä, joilla on tunnearvoa. Memory Bear on tapa pitää yllä edesmenneen muistoa tai vaikkapa muistoa lapsuudesta tai hyvistä ajoista. Ne on valmistettu lohduttamaan menetyksen tai surun hetkellä.
Tekstiilit kuten vanhat vaatteet tai asusteet työstetään nalleksi, joka kestää sukupolvelta toiselle. Memory Bear tehdään huolellisesti käsityönä perinteisin tekniikoin liikkuvilla nivelillä, saksalaisilla lasisilmillä ja täytettynä kierrätystekstiilillä sekä toimittamasi kankaan ylijäämällä.
Memory Bear voidaan tehdä esimerkiksi isoäidin vanhasta villapaidasta, sedän puvuntakista, vanhoista suosikkifarkuista tai lapsuuden peitosta tai vauvapyyhkeestä. Myös kulunut pöytäliina tai isovanhempien vanhat verhot soveltuvat työstämiseen. Muista tunnearvoa sisältävistä tavaroista kuten avaimista, tiu’uista, riipuksista tai rintaneuloista voidaan nallelle tehdä asusteita.
Huomaathan, että ohuet ja herkät kankaat kuten harso, silkki tai läpikuultavat materiaalit eivät sovellu työstämiseen. Näitä voidaan kuitenkin hyödyntää muuten, esimerkiksi kauluksena tai hattuna. Tällä hetkellä en ompele nalleille vaatteita.
Memory Bear voidaan pitää esillä erityisessä paikassa kuten vitriinissä, hyllyllä tai sängyssä. Memory Bear soveltuu myös hyvin lahjaksi läheiselle tai rakkaalle.
