Follies is a slow fashion project that offers you sustainable apparel items, made with vintage and second hand materials such as tablecloths, curtains, remaining scraps and forgotten fabrics. There’s no waste created during the production process, all scraps are used for new projects which you’ll find for sale on this site.
All garments are designed and handmade by me, Rebeca, at my home in Tampere, Finland.
I started this project not just as an income source, but also because I’m always searching for new ways to express myself. I’ve always been interested in craftsmanship arts, there are plenty of new skills I want to learn and experience from the textile world. I feel very enthusiastic for all the dreams I want to make true through Follies and I am happy to share my creations with you.
Follies concept and imagery is inspired by The Fool, the first and last card of the Tarot’s Major Arcana.
At the same time, I’m highly inspired by vintage and antiques world, the old times when mass production wasn’t the first option to consume, and we were allowed to be more creative and unique. Vintage and second hand materials I use already have a history, for me it is fascinating to imagine the house where those curtains were hung, the family sitting around the very table that tablecloth was covering, or the pile of fabrics in that wooden closet next to the old sewing machine where someone was bringing ideas to life. Now all those materials are having a chance for a second life, being part of the history of who will acquire them, you.
